The excitement of God opening up His Word to me is overwhelming.

For those of you who are journeying along with me through Church History and the Book of Revelation, we have come to the Church of Rome (alias – Church of Babylon) as we learn about the Church in Thyatira. This is the church during the Dark Ages. The merging of paganism with Christianity.

The Message to the Church in Thyatira

“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Thyatira. This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze: I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things.
But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols. I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to turn away from her immorality. Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve. But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching (‘deeper truths,’ as they call them—depths of Satan, actually). I will ask nothing more of you except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come. To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, To them I will give authority over all the nations. They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots. They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star! Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (NLT)

The word: “Thyatira,” means continual sacrifices. I hope to show you how it relates to the Church of Rome; but once again, I encourage you to study Church History for yourself. Dig deeper.

The merging of paganism with Christianity started with the Church of Pergamum, but then spread to the Church of Thyatira. There was a darkness that started, consuming the world and remained until the beginning of the Reformation. Changes took place; hidden, dark secrets were taking place. And yet today, that church still remains.

False doctrine within the Church of Rome began to deny the finished work of Christ; the only thing left was the continual sacrifice. In A.D. 607, the universal catholic church brought in ideas of continual sacrifice of which the “earning of salvation,” was placed heavily upon the people. Search for yourself; get a good base of reliable information to build upon. Don’t just take the word of another person, search for yourself.

The characteristic that Christ Jesus uses for this church is the message from the Son of God whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze. He is not playing games; he is letting us know we need to be aware of the times – to be able to listen and hear what the Spirit has to say to the churches. Get back to the basics. Don’t let the darkness consume you and take over your thinking for you.

Satan’s Secrets: beware of how the leaven is worked into your life – your surroundings. Beware of the secrets of Satan.

Today, we have seen so many evils brought into the Church of Christ. Jesus is saying to us to wake up and be aware. Don’t be pulled into the lies and deception of that woman, Jezebel, who has brought paganistic changes into His Church and like unto leaven, is stirring up evil all around the world.

I love the parable that Jesus tells in Matthew 13:33: Parable of the Yeast – “Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.” (NLT)

We must be careful what goes into the bread – for what goes in effects every part of the dough.

Like what was happening in Thyatira, the woman was dropping small amounts of yeast (leaven) into the churches and it was affecting all the people spreading false teaching little by little. Just like today, we see changes taking place within the churches, and slowly evil is being mixed in with God’s Word and it no longer looks like His Words – but the words of man – the ways of man – wanting to justify the way they live. Beware.

Jesus looked at the Church in Thyatira and was able to see their good that they were doing – doing better than they did in the beginning, but he warned them of the woman who was spreading lies and sins – making the sins look okay – we just need to be more accepting – let it go. Beware of this mentality.

Today, I was able to see that the Church of Thyatira has no ending; these dark secrets are working their way into our hearts and our souls. I can see this is the Church of Rome that is talked about during the Dark Ages and also is still going and will become the Church of Babylon that is spoken of in Revelation 17 – but that is for later in our journey.

I acknowledge that the False Religion System we see growing in our Lands is the “Great Prostitute.”

To learn more about the character of Jezebel, go back to the Old Testament and read about King Ahab and his wife, Jezebel. She was mixing the different religions back during those days to get what she wanted. You can read more about her starting in 1 Kings 16.

I find it interesting that Jesus speaks as the Son of God to the church during the Dark Ages. To paganism and continual sacrifices with eyes of fire. It is interesting also that the prior churches Jesus spoke to seemed to come to an end; but the Church of Thyatira doesn’t seems to have ended. It was talking to the Church of Rome – which will become the Church of Babylon – the church of false teachings spoken of in Revelation 17.

Heavenly Father, I love how you reveal Truth in it’s perfect timing. Jesus spoke of secrets of the evil one – secrets that are spreading within our midst. We must be vigilant in our daily lives, holding fast to the Truths of God’s Word. Father, I pray that others will be drawn closer to you because of my words; I pray that others will be willing to study Church History and learn for themselves what happened in prior years. We always learn from history and now is a good time to do so. Thank you for Your Word and thank you for saving me. I love you, Lord. I ask this in Christ Jesus’ name, amen.
