Abide. Simply. Abide.
I have loved reading all of Andrew Murray’s books. His books were some of the first books that I read – when I started seeking to know Him.
It has been over 15 years since I read those books. This afternoon I was blessed by words that I don’t remember reading so long ago, but oh how I treasure those words further down the the road of my walk with Christ:
When Jesus walked on earth and had disciples, he spoke, “Follow me!”
But when He was getting ready to leave this world and return back to Heaven, he had a new word, “Abide in me!”
Oh how much deeper his followers can go now – to abide with him! And yet, so many just want to follow and not abide. Abide means deeper – connected – submitted – obedient.
Why do so many followers fear the word, “Abide?”
Do you fear intimacy? Do you want to stand back like the Israelites so long ago in the desert and watch from a distance? Instead of abiding? Being a part of?
Theology. Arguments. Fear. Experience.
Experience. Do you fear experience? The daily intimacy – the deep fellowship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
As I look back on my journey out of legalism, I cannot even imagine what my life would have been like if I was not willing to go deeper still with him – to abide with Him – to abide in Him. To step into freedom – relationship.
My song. My challenge. Seek Him. Love Him. Know Him. Do not fear knowing Him.
