Did you ever play the game – Follow the Leader? It was a favorite game of ours in the neighborhood. We would choose a leader, then we would follow and do everything that the leader did – jump on one foot -run – walk – twirl. The list of things was endless.
Many years ago, Jesus went out into the world and started calling men unto Him. His words were simple – “Follow me.”
That is all He said and men laid down what they were doing and they followed after Him.
Jesus set examples for us as well.
If we accepted His call to follow Him, we must be sure that is what we are doing. We come to many paths in our lives that we have to choose to walk down. If we are not careful, we will look up one day and realize that we are not following after Him. We decided to take a different path. That is when we stop following His examples.
When we unfold God’s Word, we will discover that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:7-8 – Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (NLT)
In today’s world, we need to be sure that we are following the examples of leaders who know the way – the right way. A leader that exemplifies by godly character. A leader that leads others to Jesus.
Like the game – Follow the Leader – if we look up and find that we are on a different path and the leader has gone in a different direction – it means that you are no longer playing that game.
The difference in following after Jesus Christ – it is not a game. It is real.
Look up this day and if you don’t see Jesus up ahead – you may not be following after Him. Call out to Him. He will turn around and see you off in the distance and He will say, “Follow Me.”
