Unfolding God’s Word – Day 13

Cravings!  I crave chocolate.  I cannot keep it in the house.  Why?  I will eat it.

I love chocolate!

What do you crave in this world?

Unfolding God’s Word today – hits the heart about “craving.”

1 John 2:15-17 – Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.  For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions.  These are not from the Father but are from this world.  And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave.  But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (NLT)

This is another Scripture we don’t like to read too often.  I would not want to think that I love “things” in the world more than I love the Lord.

John is telling his friends not to love the world.  Do not love the things of the world.  Why?

Because we tend to naturally crave physical pleasure, desiring things that we see, and pride that swells up within us that basically says look at me!

From my own experiences in life, I can honestly say that it is easy to get caught up in the desires – the cravings of this world.  We will tell ourselves that we deserve it.

I have worked for that and I am going to get it.

I love shoes!!  I literally love shoes.  I have since I was a little girl. There was a time in my life where I would buy shoes like crazy.  I became obsessed with shoes.  I can see that now.  But during that time in my life, no one was going to hold me back from “my shoes!”

shoes

Yes, that does sound silly – but I would venture to say that we have all walked down a similar path.  It might not have been shoes – but you could fill in the blank: __________.

Its good to do a heart check on your journey with the Lord.  At least once a month, I will make time in my schedule to get alone with God and ask Him to:

Psalm 139:23-24 – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. (NLT)

It is not always easy to ask God to test you and know your anxious thoughts.  But the more you humble yourself and allow Him to have His way with you – it just keeps getting sweeter as the years go by.   The more you do it, the easier it is to walk through these testings.  Why?  Because God loves us!!

Above all else – Seek Him

My Song: I love the Lord.  I treasure my time alone with Him.  It’s okay to like shoes!  It’s okay to enjoy chocolate!  But each has their own place.  But my God is above all.

Above All
