Unfolding God’s Word – Day Seven

Cries of Desperation

We have all had days like those. Desperation. Hopelessness. Emptiness.

In fact, today, these feelings surround daily. That is why it is important to stay in God’s Word and keep our memories filled with the goodness of Adonai. Without Him, life will feel hopeless.

Today our Scripture is found in Psalm 88:1-5. It is a song. A remembrance. A sickness; not wanting to die. He never let up; his prayers were day and night.

I think these verses could speak to hearts today with the fear that blankets many with the Covid-19. Our lives have been shut down. People are frightened. Everyone handles the fear in different way and yet it has consumed us all in chaos. Hatred has risen and common sense has been smashed down.

Fear is a liar. Fear will keep us from thinking clearly at times. Fear will bring us chaos and consume us and then, we tend to go into battling mode. Relationships are destroyed.

Psalm 88:1-5:
O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you.
May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry.

For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave.
I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. (NIV)

Where are you at today? Has your life been consumed with fear? With desperation? With hopelessness?

Today is a good day to remember – to remember God’s goodness – to remember what God has done for us in the past. It is a good day to release fear into the hands of the Father and give him the control of our lives once again. It is a good day to begin to repair broken relationships.

Heavenly Father, sometimes it is hard to look at the Scriptures with gloom. It seems to be a downer. And yet, without those reminders, we forget you. We let go of your goodness and destroy our relationships with others. Sickness is a horrible thing. It can consume us. It can even consume us when we are not sick. Father, help us to find your path again – the path of truth – the path of joy – the path of faithfulness. May we remember your goodness today. I ask this in Christ Jesus’ name, Amen.

My song today is a favorite one. It speaks of fear. Many times I have put that song on repeat and just spent time in worship and praise and reminding myself of what fear can do to me. I pray that youwill be blessed.

  1. Thank you for this post today. I needed it and the song. I have been so overcome by fear of the political situation we are in, and I have asked God to heal the land. But, I stop and remember that no matter who is in the White House, the promises of God never fail us. I plan to think on those things that the Bible deem important, even as I vote to bring change from hate and intolerance. Lovely post.
