Jesus is Our GPS

To. Know. Me. Is. To. Know. My. Father.

Years ago, I worked downtown Miami.  I rode a bus to work 5-days a week.  I was young.  I had two children.  My husband just got out of the Air Force and was a new police officer.  I had a job offer, so I took it in order to help us get established.

The interesting part – I rode on the bus with my dad everyday too.  He also worked downtown Miami.  The comments made almost everyday, “You look just like your Father!”

I really did!

The Way – The Truth – The Life

Today, Jesus makes a point about that too!  If you know me – then you will know my Father.

Thomas said to him, “Master, we don’t know where you’re going, so how could we know the way there?”  Jesus explained, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life.  No one comes next to the Father except through union with me.  To know me is to know my Father too.  And from now on you will realize that you have seen him and experienced him.”  – John 14:5-7

Thomas was the question man.  He had been with Jesus for about 3 1/2 years – 24/7 – 365.  I am sure he asked a lot of questions during that time! But this day, Jesus was getting really serious – talking like he wasn’t going to be around anymore.

Maybe in our words today, what Thomas said would sound more like this:

“No!  No we don’t know!  You are scarring us!  You are going to have to tell us because we don’t know the way.”

Thomas would be one who needs a GPS today.

These next words Jesus spoke are so important – we need to imagine – grasp – know – get the picture on this one:

I am the Way.  I am the Truth.  I am the Life.

Jesus is the Way.  He speaks truth and never lies.  He shows us how to live.

Jesus is our GPS!

Experience is important.  Without it, you don’t realize that you already know the way.  We have seen the Father and we have experienced Him.  We just need to put our eyes upon Jesus.

Sometimes we take our eyes off of Jesus and we get scarred.  Even though we have been going to Him and with Him and we know the way – chaos and confusion will step into our daily lives and we will start looking to the world for direction.  We stop following and we start talking with others around us.  Our eyes get big!  We get scarred! We fall off the radar map!

Stop!  Remember. Focus. Follow.

In our world today, there are scary things happening.  And its easy to take our eyes off of Jesus and forget our way.  He hasn’t moved.  He hasn’t changed.  He is right there waiting on us to follow Him.

Grasp His words today!  Don’t let go!  Experience Him!

My song for today:

I Will Follow

Points to ponder:

  1. Are you following Jesus today?
  2. Have you ever forgot the Way?
  3. Do you desire to experience Him?
