Savoring Saturday

Savoring is important.

It is a freeing up the mind from clutter – from overload.

It is enjoying the taste – the remembrances.  It is looking over what God has said and done in the past, and then realizing that God has always been faithful.  He has never left me.  He has carried me through the difficult and rocky roads.

An Everlasting Love

Because He has loved me with an everlasting love. – Jeremiah 31:3

God’s love is real.  God’s love is an everlasting love.  Savor it.

I have journeyed through John 15:9-27 this week – a few verses at a time.  And today I will savor those words:

“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love. I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you. And here is how to measure it — the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are my friends if you obey me. I no longer call you servants, because a master doesn’t confide in his servants. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. I command you to love each other.

“When the world hates you, remember it hated me before it hated you. The world would love you if you belonged to it, but you don’t. I chose you to come out of the world, and so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A servant is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you! The people of the world will hate you because you belong to me, for they don’t know God who sent me. They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates me hates my Father, too. If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be counted guilty. But as it is, they saw all that I did and yet hated both of us — me and my Father. This has fulfilled what the Scriptures said: ‘They hated me without cause.’

“But I will send you the Counselor — the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will tell you all about me. And you must also tell others about me because you have been with me from the beginning. – John 15:9-27  (NLT)

Five points shared – simple points that the Lord has shown to me this week:

  1. Remain in God’s love
  2. The world hates Jesus for no reason
  3. God has sent the Spirit of Truth
  4. The Spirit of Truth will tell me all about Jesus
  5. I must tell others of this Truth

Some questions that I have asked myself:

  1. Can you think of times that you have remained in God’s love?
  2. Have you ever felt that hate from the world?  Just because you remained in God’s love?
  3. Have you opened up your heart and mind to the Holy Spirit?
  4. What truths has he shared with you?
  5. Have I told others about this Comforter?

I encourage you to read through the verses and see what the Spirit of Truth brings to light in your life.

I cherish the memories of the times that I have looked back and seen the love of God in my life.  I savor those moments when I realized that my Heavenly Father has loved me with an everlasting love over all these years of my life.  AND he will continue to do so – just as he has said.

I pray that this song blesses you today.  Open up your heart to him and let him minister to you today.  Oh how he loves you and me.
