Unfolding God’s Word – Day 23

Wheel in a Wheel

Today, my post is a little different.  I pray that you will be blessed and feel like you were fed from the Word of God.  I was in a treasure room in the Old Testament this morning and I stopped at the chest marked Ezekiel 1-4.  If you grew up in the church, you more than likely remember some stories about Ezekiel and the wheel.  I remember singing a song in Sunday School about a wheel in the wheel.

As I sat next to this chest this morning, feeding on the Word of God, I thought, “Lord, what can I write about this morning?”

I left this chest and started moving about in the treasure room, looking for something different for today.  And yet, I kept being drawn back to the wheel in a wheel chest. So, that is what I am writing about today:

Ezekiel 1:15-21 – As I looked at these beings, I saw four wheels touching the ground beside them, one wheel belonging to each. The wheels sparkled as if made of beryl. All four wheels looked alike and were made the same; each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise within it. The beings could move in any of the four directions they faced, without turning as they moved. The rims of the four wheels were tall and frightening, and they were covered  with eyes all around.  When the living beings moved, the wheels moved with them. When they flew upward, the wheels went up, too. The spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. So wherever the spirit went, the wheels and the living beings also went. When the beings moved, the wheels moved. When the beings stopped, the wheels stopped. When the beings flew upward, the wheels rose up, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. (NLT)

Very Different, huh!!  Even when you read the whole chapter – it is hard to follow.  But I have discovered over the years reading the same chapter, year after year, God reveals a little more of what is behind His hidden treasures.

There are four creatures – each has four faces (human, lion, ox, eagle) with many flashing parts on them.  Take time today and read about them – their description surpasses that of a “transformer” as we know about them today.  Plus, these creatures are huge!!

Note that when the living beings moved, the wheels moved with them.  But what really flashed out at me this morning – wherever the spirit went, the wheels and the living beings also went.  Why?  The spirit of the living beings was in the wheels.  A wheel within a wheel.  Are you catching it?

This is key – Wherever the spirit went they moved with it.  As believers in Christ Jesus, that is part of our goal living here on earth – moving with the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel saw this vision for a purpose – God was calling him to ministry – to go and speak to a rebellious people – not enemies – but rebellious children of God who had turned away from Him.

As a nation, we have turned away from God.  When people are rebellious, it doesn’t matter why – they are rebellious.  God wants our attention.  Are we going to follow?  Are we going to hear His Words?  Will we obey?

The days surrounding me – you, are frightening right now.  It is easy for us to take our eyes off of Jesus – off the “wheel in a wheel.”  The days ahead are important.

For me, I feel God is revealing the evil that has taken place and continues to take place.  He is looking to His Children to return back to Him – confess – repent – turn from their evil ways.  I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am ready for a change!  I want to see God glorified once again in the Nation.

Will you follow?  Like a wheel within a wheel?  Going where the Holy Spirit leads?

Heavenly Father, the days are frightening.  If I was not connected to You, I think I would have given up by now.  But I know that You have the whole world in Your hands.  No matter the outcome, You will always be in control.  But Father, I want to see You glorified.  I want to see our Nation speechless from acknowledging the glory of the Lord.  Father, I fall down on my face this morning, praying that Your Children will hear your voice and then obey those words.  I love you, Lord.  I ask this in Jesus Christ’s name, amen.

If you can, walk a little further down the path with me today.  Look at this description of the “glory of God.”

Ezekiel 1:22-28 – Spread out above them was a surface like the sky, glittering like crystal. Beneath this surface, the wings of each living being stretched out to touch the others’ wings, and each had two wings covering its body. As they flew, their wings sounded to me like waves crashing against the shore or like the voice of the Almighty or like the shouting of a mighty army. When they stopped, they let down their wings. As they stood with wings lowered, a voice spoke from beyond the crystal surface above them.  Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me. (NLT)

Have you experienced the “wheel in a wheel!”  His Holy Spirit?  His Presence?

My Song:  Holy Spirit.  Yes, you are welcome here.
