Unfolding God’s Word – Day 24

Return.  And Then Rest.

Vacation.  We go away for rest. Expecting to come back and feel rested.  And yet many times, we find we overbooked our fun and we need rest when we return.

In God’s Treasure Room this morning, I rested by the chest marked Isaiah 30:15.  So precious the Words of God. I sat there with the unfolded Word of God in my hands realizing that true rest is only found in my relationship with God.  That is why it is necessary to seek Him.  In Him, you will find Rest for Your Soul.

Return and Rest

Isaiah 30:15 – This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. (NLT)

Today there is a feeling of unrest in our country.  And yet, we can find the peace needed – the rest needed – in returning to God.  The Holy God – the Sovereign Lord says that it is only in returning to him and resting in him that you will be saved.  In those quiet moments and in building up confidence will you find your strength – the strength of the Lord.  This is basic theology.

BUT His people would have none of it.  In my heart, I feel that is what is happening today – we have not returned to Him, therefore there is no rest in the land.  We have not fully trusted in Him.  The quiet moments are few and far between.

This is one of the main reasons that I write.  That we would heed the Words of God and return and in the returning we would find rest.  God’s Rest.

There is rest for your soul in the arms of God.  Go. And then rest:

Be Still My Soul

Oh Heavenly Father, how rebellious our hearts can be at times.  You have given your children clear instructions to find rest and yet so many times we want nothing to do with it.  We think we know better than our God – the Holy, Holy, Holy God.  Father, forgive us for our sins.  Help us to desire to return to You and then rest in You.  Be with us in the coming weeks.  Help us to look to Your Basics and trust in You that Your ways and Your thoughts are above ours.  Thank you for that perfect peace.  Thank you for that perfect rest.  I love you, Lord.  In Christ Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
